Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy for Benign Skin Lesions

Orchard Mews Clinic has teamed up wth Ivan Med to provide cryotherapy using the CryoPen.

The CryoPen uses a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure which is directed at the treatment area.  The CryoPen is held close to the skin lesion and moved quickly towards and away from it.  After the first freeze cycle a second application can be given.   Treatments usually take under a minute.

This treatment does not require any anaesthesia and leaves less scarring than other techniques. There is minimal down-time and the treatment can be done as part of your working day.

For most skin lesions cryotherapy provides a permanent solution.   Deeper lesions may require several treatments to get the required results.

The CryoPen treatment is effective for skin tags, age spots, warts, actinic keratosis, verrucas, milia, cherry angiomas, and other benign skin lesions.

Although cryotherapy is a low-risk treatment some after effects are possible, including
  • Changes in pigmentation - as the treatment areas are small this is not usually noticeable
  • Damage to nerves - some changes in sensation are possible but sensation usually comes back after a few weeks
  • Hair loss (if treating areas with a lot of hair). As the treatment areas are small this should not be very noticeable
